Outdoor school district activities cancelled due to environmental air quality

Outdoor school district activities cancelled due to environmental air quality

Outdoor activities coordinated by the school district have been cancelled Thursday, July 16, 2026 due to hazardous and unhealthy air quality conditions.

  • Student safety is a priority. This notice applies consistently to all athletic programs in the district both outdoor and indoor and also includes marching band, dance, and other co-curricular programs.
  • Ability to coordinate activities within indoor spaces is limited. Coaches and advisors may communicate with team groups individually if and when activities are shifted to available indoor spaces.

The Anoka-Hennepin School District will closely monitor conditions to make determinations about activities scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2026 and over the weekend.

What this means:

  • This directive follows Minnesota State High School League guidelines for student athlete safety.
  • Activities directors and athletic trainers will monitor closely and provide guidance in alignment with MSHSL guidelines.
  • District-sponsored outdoor activities are cancelled.
  • Decisions about outdoor activities or facility rentals by community organizations or other groups are the responsibility of those organizations.
  • Indoor activities will continue as expected unless notified separately. Coaches and programs will provide additional communication to student athletes regarding schedules for future activities.

This notice applies consistently to all school district events and activities, and also includes athletics, marching band, dance, and other co-curricular programs.

Thank you for your understanding and support regarding this situation.
